Adult males usually weigh between 12 and 18 pounds, while females are a bit smaller. Some cats may be outside this range depending on their family line.

Yes. All of our breeding cats are DNA tested through Wisdom Panel, the world’s most comprehensive cat DNA test that screens for 50+ inherited health conditions and 29+ genetic traits.

Yes. Every kitten from our cattery comes with a written health guarantee. This includes lifetime coverage against death caused by genetic diseases such as PRA-pd, PKD, and ALPS, plus one year of protection for genetic or congenital conditions that have a serious, lasting effect on quality of life.

Do cats cause allergies in humans?

No cat breed is truly hypoallergenic. All cats produce the protein Fel d 1, which is the most common cause of cat allergies in people, and British Shorthairs and British Longhairs are no exception.

Both male and female British Shorthairs make equally wonderful companions. In our experience, personality depends far more on the individual cat, their upbringing, and their lineage than on gender.

Do you raise your cats in cages?

Absolutely not. Our cats are free to move around the house. The only time we restrict their movements is if they are ill or when a female is nursing her kittens for their safety and well-being.

Starting at around four weeks old, our kittens are regularly held, petted, and played with to ensure they are well-socialized and comfortable with human contact. For the first two months, they stay with their mother, who teaches them essential skills like litter box use and grooming.

Yes, our cats are registered with TICA (The International Cat Association) and CCA (The Canadian Cat Association) as purebred British Shorthairs and British Longhairs. A WCF Champion title is awarded by independent judges at World Cat Federation shows after a cat is evaluated against the official British Shorthair breed standard. The title verifies breed type and conformation by people who have no relationship to our cattery.

Do you offer your studs for outside breeding service?

No. Like other registered British Shorthair catteries, we do not offer our studs for outside breeding service. Our studs are dedicated to our own breeding program.

Can I meet the kittens before adopting?

We truly wish we could welcome everyone, but our cattery is operated from our home and we always have newborn kittens with developing immune systems. Scent changes from visits can also cause nursing mothers to reject their kittens. For the health and safety of our cats, visits are limited to scheduled pick-up appointments in our designated reception area. This is standard practice among reputable registered catteries. In place of visits, we provide HD photos and 4K videos on each kitten’s individual page. This allows you to clearly see their appearance and get a sense of their personality from the comfort of your home. Our Google reviews are also public. Families are warmly welcomed when it is time to pick up their little one. We truly appreciate your understanding and support in helping us maintain the safest and healthiest environment for our kittens.

Our kittens go to their new homes between 10 and 14 weeks of age. The exact timing depends on each kitten's size, maturity, and whether travel is involved. Shipping is paused for now, so all kittens go home by in-person pickup at our cattery in Oakville.

We do not offer personal delivery. Shipping is paused for now, so all pickups happen in person at our cattery in Oakville, Ontario. We love meeting every family on pickup day, completing the paperwork together and making sure your kitten is comfortably prepared for the transition. Once shipping resumes, kittens travel by air across Canada with Air Canada and WestJet: in the cabin with you, WestJet welcomes kittens from 8 weeks of age and Air Canada from 10 weeks, and unaccompanied cargo is available from 10 weeks. We take care of the airline-approved carrier, documents, bedding and food so travel day goes smoothly.

Every Golden Charm kitten sold within Ontario is pet-only under a strict no-breeding contract. TICA registration papers are released only after we receive veterinary proof of spay or neuter by six months of age.
