Who we are
Golden Charm Cattery is a home based, registered British Shorthair and British Longhair cattery in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Our website is https://goldencharm.ca.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and how long we keep it. We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, Canada’s federal privacy law, known as PIPEDA.
What we collect and why
1. The kitten inquiry form. We collect your name, your email address and your message, including the kitten you ask about. We use it to answer your inquiry and to keep a record of our conversation.
2. The waiting list form. We collect your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, your kitten preferences and your answers about your household. We use it to place you in the queue, to match you with a suitable kitten and to contact you when one becomes available.
3. The adoption application form. We collect your contact details, your address, your chosen pickup date and your answers about your home, your household and your experience with cats. We use it to complete the adoption, to prepare the paperwork and to arrange the pickup.
4. Payments. When you send a deposit or a balance by e-transfer, we record the amount, the date, the payment method and the transfer reference. We use it to confirm your payment, to hold your place in the queue and to keep our accounting records.
We do not process card payments on this website. We hold no card numbers and no bank account numbers.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent it. We do not share it for advertising. We do not use it to build profiles for marketing by other companies.
Who we share your information with
We share personal information only with the services we use to run the website and the cattery, and only as far as each service needs it.
- WPForms, the software behind our forms, stores form entries on our website.
- WP Mail SMTP and our email provider deliver the emails we send you.
- Google, through Gmail, holds our email correspondence with you.
- Wordfence protects the website and inspects traffic for attacks. Their privacy policy is at https://www.wordfence.com/privacy-policy/.
- GoDaddy, our hosting provider, stores the website and its database.
- CookieYes records your cookie choices.
- Imagify processes images we upload. It receives no customer data.
- Air Canada or WestJet, when a kitten travels by air, receive the name, address and phone number needed for the booking.
- Our veterinarian, who receives the kitten’s health record, and your name where a transfer of care requires it.
We also disclose personal information where Canadian law requires it.
How long we keep your information
- Kitten inquiries: two years from your last message.
- Waiting list entries: until the adoption completes or you withdraw, then two years.
- Adoption records, contracts and payment records: seven years, to meet Canadian tax and business record rules.
- Website security logs: as set by Wordfence, normally thirty days.
When a period ends we delete the information or make it anonymous.
Cookies
Our website sets a small number of cookies. Some keep the site working. Some remember your cookie choices. You control non essential cookies through the cookie banner, and you change your choice at any time.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you
- receive a copy of it
- correct it where it is wrong
- withdraw your consent, subject to our legal and contractual obligations
- ask us to delete it, where no law requires us to keep it

If you are unhappy with our answer, you have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at https://www.priv.gc.ca.
Security
We protect your information with an encrypted connection across the whole website, a firewall and malware scanning through Wordfence, limited administrator access and regular backups.
No website is perfectly secure. If a breach ever puts your information at real risk of harm, we will tell you and we will report it as PIPEDA requires.
Children
Our website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child. If we learn we hold information about a child, we delete it.
Photographs
We publish photographs of our kittens and cats. We do not publish photographs of adopters or their homes without written permission.
Embedded content
Some pages include content from other websites, such as videos. Those websites collect data about you in the same way as if you visited them directly.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. The effective date at the top shows the current version.
