Our Adoption Process: From Waiting List to Kitten Home (2026 Guide)

Adopting a kitten from a registered cattery is different from buying one off Kijiji. There's a process, and it exists to protect both the kitten and you. This guide walks you through exactly how adoption works at Golden Charm Cattery, from your first inquiry to the moment you bring your kitten home.

How does the kitten adoption process work?

Golden Charm Cattery offers two adoption paths: reserving a kitten that's currently available, or joining a waiting list for upcoming litters. Both paths involve an inquiry, an application, a deposit, and a scheduled pickup day. The entire process typically takes 2 to 12 weeks depending on kitten availability.

What are the two paths to getting a kitten?

What are the steps to adopt an available kitten?

Four steps: inquiry, application, deposit, pickup. The kitten remains available to other buyers until a deposit is received. First-come, first-served.
Step 1
Inquire about a kitten

Visit our Available Kittens page. Click the inquiry button for the kitten you're interested in. We'll respond by email with the adoption fee and full details.

Step 2
Complete the adoption application

Fill out our Adoption Application. This helps us understand your living situation and make sure the kitten is going to a good home. We respond to every application.

Step 3
Submit your $400 deposit

Send a $400 non-refundable deposit via e-transfer to goldencharmcattery@gmail.com. This amount is deducted from your final payment. The kitten is not reserved until the deposit is received.

Step 4
Pickup day

On the scheduled pickup day, you'll sign the adoption contract, pay the remaining balance, and take your kitten home. We provide all health documents, vaccination records, and transition tips.

How does the waiting list work?

The waiting list gives you priority access to choose a kitten from an upcoming litter before public reservations open. You pick your preferred colour and coat type, and we contact you when matching kittens are born. Kittens are available for selection at around 4 weeks of age.
Step 1
Contact us and join the list

Email us at goldencharmcattery@gmail.com and complete the Waiting List Form. Tell us your preferred colour, coat type (shorthair or longhair), and gender.

Step 2
Pay the $400 waiting list fee

Send $400 via e-transfer. This fee counts toward your deposit when you select a kitten. It is non-refundable.

Step 3
Receive kitten photos at 4 weeks

When a matching litter is born, we send you photos and 4K videos of the kittens at approximately 4 weeks old. You choose your kitten before we open reservations to the public.

Step 4
Confirm and reserve with a second deposit

Once you've selected your kitten, pay an additional $400 deposit to confirm. This amount, combined with your waiting list fee, is deducted from the final adoption fee.

Step 5
Pickup or shipping

When your kitten is ready (10 to 16 weeks), we arrange pickup in Oakville or shipping via Air Canada or WestJet for kittens 10 to 12 weeks and older.

What is included with every kitten from Golden Charm Cattery?

Every kitten comes with TICA registration, FVRCP vaccination, deworming, a lifetime genetic diseases warranty, 30-day Trupanion health insurance, a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, lifetime breeder consulting, socialization training, litter training, and a Royal Canin starter kit. Nothing is extra.

What is your no-breeding policy?

All kittens from Golden Charm Cattery are sold as pets only, under a strict no-breeding contract. TICA registration papers are released only after the owner provides proof of spay or neuter by 6 months of age.

This policy exists to protect the breed. Uncontrolled breeding without health testing leads to genetic diseases being passed to future generations. By requiring spay or neuter before releasing papers, we ensure our kittens are not used in unethical breeding programs.

Can I visit the cattery before adopting?

No. Golden Charm Cattery is a closed cattery. We do not accept public visits. This policy protects our cats and kittens from exposure to outside diseases and pathogens. The only visit allowed is on kitten pickup day.

We understand this might feel unusual. To give you confidence before committing, we provide photos and 4K video of your kitten, answer all questions by email, and share references from past adopters. Our Google reviews from families who've adopted from us are publicly available.

Do you ship kittens across Canada?

Yes. Golden Charm Cattery ships kittens across Canada via Air Canada and WestJet for kittens 10 to 12 weeks and older. All shipped kittens include a veterinary health certificate, vaccination records, and travel preparation. Local pickup is available in Oakville for GTA families.
Before you apply

Kittens remain available until a holding deposit is received. We cannot guarantee availability without a deposit. All communication happens by email. We respond to every application, typically within 24 to 48 hours.
