Adopting a kitten from a registered cattery is different from buying one off Kijiji. There's a process, and it exists to protect both the kitten and you. This guide walks you through exactly how adoption works at Golden Charm Cattery, from your first inquiry to the moment you bring your kitten home.
How does the kitten adoption process work?
What are the two paths to getting a kitten?
Browse our current kittens, pick the one you like, and reserve with a deposit. Kittens go home at 10 to 16 weeks.
Browse KittensChoose your preferred colour and coat type. Get priority access to pick your kitten at 4 weeks, before public reservations open.
Join Waiting ListWhat are the steps to adopt an available kitten?
Visit our Available Kittens page. Click the inquiry button for the kitten you're interested in. We'll respond by email with the adoption fee and full details.
Fill out our Adoption Application. This helps us understand your living situation and make sure the kitten is going to a good home. We respond to every application.
Send a $400 non-refundable deposit via e-transfer to goldencharmcattery@gmail.com. This amount is deducted from your final payment. The kitten is not reserved until the deposit is received.
On the scheduled pickup day, you'll sign the adoption contract, pay the remaining balance, and take your kitten home. We provide all health documents, vaccination records, and transition tips.
How does the waiting list work?
Email us at goldencharmcattery@gmail.com and complete the Waiting List Form. Tell us your preferred colour, coat type (shorthair or longhair), and gender.
Send $400 via e-transfer. This fee counts toward your deposit when you select a kitten. It is non-refundable.
When a matching litter is born, we send you photos and 4K videos of the kittens at approximately 4 weeks old. You choose your kitten before we open reservations to the public.
Once you've selected your kitten, pay an additional $400 deposit to confirm. This amount, combined with your waiting list fee, is deducted from the final adoption fee.
When your kitten is ready (10 to 16 weeks), we arrange pickup in Oakville or shipping via Air Canada or WestJet for kittens 10 to 12 weeks and older.
What is included with every kitten from Golden Charm Cattery?
What is your no-breeding policy?
This policy exists to protect the breed. Uncontrolled breeding without health testing leads to genetic diseases being passed to future generations. By requiring spay or neuter before releasing papers, we ensure our kittens are not used in unethical breeding programs.
Can I visit the cattery before adopting?
We understand this might feel unusual. To give you confidence before committing, we provide photos and 4K video of your kitten, answer all questions by email, and share references from past adopters. Our Google reviews from families who've adopted from us are publicly available.
Do you ship kittens across Canada?
Kittens remain available until a holding deposit is received. We cannot guarantee availability without a deposit. All communication happens by email. We respond to every application, typically within 24 to 48 hours.
